QUESTIONS ABOUT SKILL GAMING...
Q. Are cash skill game competitions legal, especially in the U.S.?
Yes, they are legal in the U.S. and many other countries.
Modern games of skill are no different from carnival games, chess and golf tournaments or other skill-based games that have been played for cash or prizes in the offline world for hundreds of years - they've just been taken online!
Unfortunately, cash skill game tournaments are currently not yet available to residents of some countries. If you reside in one of the countries listed below then you will not be able to upgrade your account to participate in cash competitions on either GameDuell or WorldWinner.
Currently restricted countries are: Afghanistan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Congo Democratic Republic, Cote D'Ivoire, Cuba, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran Islamic Republic, Iraq, North Korea, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Romania, Russian Federation, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam, Yugoslavia and Zimbabwe.
Q. Is competing in skill competitions for cash prizes considered gambling?
No, competing in cash skill games is NOT gambling.
Fee-based skill game tournaments do not constitute gambling because they involve predominantly skill, as opposed to chance, and are designed as interactive online entertainment for adults. Participation is restricted to individuals of legal age in their respective jurisdiction. Players must also meet criteria for location eligibility in order to participate.
The newest US Federal legislation of September 30, 2006 - H.R.4411 "Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006" Sec. 5362 defines illegal betting or wagering as including 'the purchase of a chance or opportunity to win a lottery or other prize (which opportunity to win is predominantly subject to chance)'.
The new Federal legislation includes a specific allowance for online competitions in games of skill, such as those offered by GameDuell.com and WorldWinner.com, to continue in the US states in which they have always been legal. The reality is that skill gaming is in the same position it was in before the bill - it is still legal in the majority of US States. The new bill does not change the definition of gambling or the legality of skill games.
Although the distinctions between skill-based games and games of chance are clear, there are a few states within the U.S. that have not yet permitted skill-based games to be played for cash or prizes. If a player resides in one of these states (see full list below), they are not allowed to upload any funds to their e-wallet and participate in any PAID tournaments or competitions. Players in these states can, however, still lawfully participate in free-to-enter tournaments.
US states currently restricted are: Arkansas, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Vermont.
Q. What are the minimum system requirements?
You will want to make sure that your PC meets at least the minimum requirements for successful gameplay. Generally, these requirements are as follows:
- Technology: A game may require you to download and install the latest version of the underlying software required for it to run - typically ActiveX, DirectX, Director, Flash or Java. You may need to make upgrades to the hardware on your system when your video/graphics cards are incompatible or out-dated (check individual game sites for game requirements).
- Screen resolution recommendations: If your game doesn't fit fully on your screen, you may need to adjust your Display control panel settings. The 800x600 screen resolution has been typical, but many games now require a screen resolution of 1024x768 or more (check individual game sites for game requirements).
- Broadband recommended or broadband required: Some games may take a long time to download over dial-up Internet connections; these are marked as "broadband recommended". Other games may "require broadband", to stream video for instance (check individual game sites for game requirements).
Note: Neither WorldWinner currently supports the use of Macintosh computers, WebTV, or Personal Digital Assistants. You can browse WorldWinner.com and GameDuell.com using those platforms, but their games will NOT work on them at the present time.
Q. Which web browser works best for skill game competitions?
GameDuell's content is optimized for best results on Internet Explorer. It is possible to use other popular browsers as well, although the use of these browsers can sometimes lead to display problems.
WorldWinner is currently in the process of making their games compatible with Mozilla's Firefox browser. At this time, you can browse WorldWinner.com on Firefox (or other browsers) as well as play a select few of their game titles successfully. WorldWinner plans on bringing all game titles to Firefox (as well as other browsers) in the near future, so please check regularily for updates.
Q. Can I play for free?
Yes. WorldWinner games can be played for free for as long as you like. Due to contractual obligations, however, WorldWinner is required to limit the number of free entries (25 per day) in the following games:
- SCRABBLE Cubes
- MONOPOLY Downtown
- TRIVIAL PURSUIT TURBO
- CLUE Mystery Match
The limit only applies to these four games since they are licensed from a third party. You can play as many free tournaments as you wish in all of the other WorldWinner game titles.
At GameDuell you have to register as a 'Practice Player' to participate in the duels. Upon registration as a 'Practice Player' you will receive 1,000.00 credits of free practice money. This Practice Money can be used at any time within 6 months without any further obligations.

To become a Basic (free) Member you will first need to register for an account at GameDuell or at WorldWinner. You will be asked to create a username, provide the email address you would like to have associated with your account, and choose the password which is required so that you may log into your account.
